The Commercial Pilots License Helicopter (CPL(H)) enables individuals to work as helicopter pilots for charter companies and receive payment for their flying services. To obtain this license, applicants must complete an additional 150 hours of flight time, which includes both dual instruction and solo flight. Additionally, they may need to pass up to 10 theoretical examinations if they are seeking an Instrument Rating.

Description of our CPL(H) with IFR
A Commercial Pilots License Helicopter (CPL(H)) allows the holder to work for a charter company as a helicopter pilot, while being remunerated for their flying services. The license involves an additional 150 Hours comprising of dual instruction and solo flight, as well as up to 10 theoretical examinations depending on whether an Instrument Rating is sought. A CPL(H) involves a mind shift from recreational flying to the transport of passengers and cargo, with a corresponding professional and grounded attitude. This license represents a significant investment in time and money but is the first step involved when commencing an exciting and rewarding career in aviation. The South African minimum requirements for CPL(H) with IFR training
•18 Years or older •Valid PPL(H) and Night Rating •Radio Telephony: General Radio License •CPL(H) Skills Test Completed •Fluent in English (Speak, read, write, and understand) •A valid Class I or II Aviation Medical. oWe will assist you with a list of Aviation doctors for your Aviation Medical appointment, if required.
Ground School Subjects: approx. 40hours
•Commercial test preparation. •A requirement for the CPL(H) is to attend a Ground School on all the below mentioned subjects and to pass their applicable SACAA Examinations. •You must pass a Practical Flying Test with a Grade I, Designated Flight Examiner (DFE) assigned by the SACAA. •The CPL(H) will, on average, take you between 12 to 18 months to complete if done on a full-time basis. However, you have 36 months to complete your training after writing and passing the last subject Examination. •The hour building stage toward the 100 hours PIC requirement can be completed on one of our fleet of helicopters or Bell 222 simulator. Pass Requirements for your Commercial Pilot License Helicopter (CPL(H) with IFR
A pass for all your 8 examinations (9 with instrument rating) are required.
Flight Hours
Min 200 hours Total Flight time: •Minimum of 100 hours flying as Pilot-in-Command (The total combined PIC hours, including PPL and CPL, must be 100 hours). •Minimum of 40 hours Instrument Training (of which no more than 20 hrs may be accumulated on a approved simulator) (Recommended, but not required). •20 hours of cross-country flight time as PIC, including one flight of not less than 150 NM, during which full-stop landings at not less than two different points away from base shall have been made. •Minimum of 5-night flying hours as PIC (Recommended, but not required).
