Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS)
Highly sought after system
Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS), involve the use of Night Vision Goggles (NVG), special lighting systems and trained crew to operate and land helicopters in areas that would be too dark for operators without the equipment to use.
NVIS technology evolved from military operations and are now used in several “para-civilian” roles such as Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), anti-poaching, Search and Rescue (SAR) and law enforcement. The technology is used every night to increase the safety and efficiency of the ROCKET operations.
Turn-key solutions are available to companies wanting to use the technology; the process will be tailored to the operation in question and will involve theoretical and practical flight training, supply of equipment, development of procedures and ultimately the approval from the South Africa Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA). NVG flight time is highly sought after overseas.

Description of our NVIS/NVG training
We encourage inquiries from pilots at all levels, ranging from Private Pilot License (Helicopter) and beyond, to explore this exhilarating program. NVIS/NVG training for helicopter pilots is a crucial aspect of their preparation for nighttime operations. Pilots undergo specialized training to effectively utilize NVIS/NVG systems and maximize their situational awareness in low-light conditions. The training covers topics such as system familiarization, operational limitations, and correct utilization techniques. Pilots learn to interpret the intensified imagery, navigate terrain, and maintain spatial orientation while relying on the NVIS/NVG technology. They also practice flight maneuvers, instrument approaches, and emergency procedures specific to nighttime operations. By acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge through NVIS/NVG training, helicopter pilots are equipped to conduct missions safely and effectively in low-light conditions, enhancing their operational capabilities and ensuring mission success. Henley Air Flight Training is the only SACAA approved Aviation Training Organisation that has an approved NVIS (Night Vision Imaging Systems) Flight Training Syllabus.
